Beech Tree Down

Josh in front of the tree

Over 140 years Old

On the night of 6 December, winter gales brought down a large beech tree in Littlehempston village.

In the early hours of the morning as a gale roared up the valley, we heard an incredibly loud crack. We checked the roof was still on the house and drifted off back to sleep.
The next morning we walked up to the village to find that a large Beech tree (140 years old on counting the rings), had fallen across the road, river and into a field.
The village came out in force to see the rather sad spectacle of the end of this beautiful trees life. But then it was time for action: chainsaws out and everyone doing their bit to clear up. I was already eyeing up the timber wondering how we could get it back to Lower Court.
